MEDNICA MEANS MEDICINE (AND EQUIPMENT) FOR NICARAGUA
MEDNICA is an all volunteer organization dedicated to helping the people of Nicaragua by supporting several medical and community health projects there. CLICK HERE for information on Nicaragua.
MEDNICA MEANS SUPPORT for the Juanita Mendoza Connolly Clinic Managua. This public health clinic sees about 1500 patients a year and has recently opened a woman's health specialty section. The clinic is allied with the Moravian Church in Nicaragua but accepts anyone who seeks medical attention. The small fee charged for a Doctor's visit is waived if the person has no money. Mednica solicits monetary donations to pay for the salaries of the physicians and staff of the clinic, and medications needed by the patients. Mednica also seeks donations of medicines and medical equipment and supplies in the U.S. and transports them to Managua for use in the clinic.
MEDNICA MEANS MEDICAL EDUCATION. Mednica facilitates a month long rotation of Temple University medical students in Managua and/or the Nicaraguan Atlantic Coast communities. This rotation takes place partly at the Juanita Mendoza Connolly clinic but can include any number of sites in Managua, Pearl Lagoon, Bluefields and Corn Island. Candidates need to have some knowledge of Spanish and have the adaptability to work and learn in a third world country.
MEDNICA MEANS HEARTBEATS. Mednica solicits donations of cardiac pacemakers from hospitals and manufacturers to be implanted in patients in Managua. The patients are selected on the basis of need, both medical and economic. The pacemakers are used to prolong or to save the lives of patients from indigent families.
MEDNICA MEANS WATER. Mednica solicits donations for and supervises the digging of wells for potable water in the Atlantic Coast region of Nicaragua. Although this area sees a lot of rainfall every year, the availability of clean drinking water is limited by many factors. In La Costa Atlantica the proper construction of wells to prevent contamination is expensive and difficult. Mednica seeks to alleviate this problem by providing money and expertise.
MEDNICA NEEDS YOU! We are a small group of people who are concerned that the very poor corner of our hemisphere called Central America is continually overlooked by us, the people of the developed world. We are continually seeking ways to raise money and gather medical supplies and to raise awareness of the needs of the destitute people there. We ask anyone who has surplus medical materials or medicines of any kind, in any quantity, to get in touch with us. Of course we also accept tax deductible monetary donations in any amount.
